Appearance: Hokuto is a tall and fairly pretty girl with short black hair and emerald eyes. She has a very interesting style of clothing, ranging from anywhere between the simple to the outrageous. She designs her own outfits and makes them, and has a taste for bright and vibrant colors. As one of the two twin heads of the Sumeragi clan (her brother, though younger, would become the true head of the Sumeragi clan one day), she has special ritual garments to being an onmyouji, white with many layers. However, she prefers to practice in regular clothes.
Personality: Hokuto is a very kind and caring girl who shows her mothering traits to her brother Subaru. Being the older of the two twins, she makes sure that he gets enough to eat and has plenty of sleep. She's able to make friends with just about anyone, but isn't afraid to show her more protective side, going so far as to threaten friends should they ever hurt her brother. Subaru is one of the most precious people in her life, and she would never let anything hurt him. She feels bad, however, that she cannot do as much as he can with her limited powers, and so must sit back and watch him do most of the work.
Abilities: Like her brother, Hokuto is an onmyouji. Her powers are never thoroughly explained nor seen, but it is implied that she can do many things Subaru can, but she lacks the depth of strength that he has. She knows several spells, incantations, and seals to protect people and places from negative energies and vengeful spirits. She can feel spirits rather than see them, and she firmly believes that attempting to help is better than fighting. However, Subaru is usually laden with this work, and so she attaches herself to him and insists he take it easy.
Non-magical abilities consist of making food, tea, and clothes.
History: Hokuto was born as the older twin to the Sumeragi clan. Her younger brother, Subaru, was her identical twin, and the two matched each other in many ways. They were both kind and gentle, but he was definitely more introverted than she was. When she realized that her skills would never be as great as his, and he would have to go through so much pain in life, Hokuto decided to stay by his side and care for her brother. In truth, she genuinely loved him, even going so far as to remind him (and everyone) that they are two separate people, and it will take time for them to love each other.
When she and Subaru met Seishirou, she knew something was strange about him. His last name resembled the title of the Sakurazukamori, an enemy clan of the Sumeragi, and the polar opposites of people like her and Subaru. Nevertheless, he pledged his love for Subaru and did all he could to protect the boy, and so Hokuto allowed him into their lives. She even tried to set the two of them up, encouraging their love. In truth, it had less to do with her trust in Seishirou, and more that she wanted Subaru to love something and truly live for himself.
Though she could only nurture and care for her brother's wellbeing, she put all she could into helping him whenever it was possible. And then, she met Kakyou. He pulled her into his dreams and showed her how little he could do in his life. Hokuto spent a great deal of time with him in his dreams, showing him beaches and scenes of the outside world, and telling him about her own life. She promised she would take him outside one day, into the real world.
But it was not to be.
Seishirou showed his true colors at long last and nearly killed her brother, slipping Subaru into a catatonic state. Feeling guilty and suffering along with her brother, Hokuto apologized for pushing them together and creating so many problems for him. She took his onmyouji garb and went to search for Seishirou. Eventually, she found him just outside of the compound that held Kakyou, and she convinced him to kill her, for there were spells she could do that no one else could, and thus was a threat. Seishirou stabbed her through the heart, but not before she cast a spell that would change Seishirou and Subaru's fates.
Lying in Seishirou's arms, she urged both him and Subaru to live: if Seishirou attempted to kill Subaru in the same way he killed her, the attack would reverse, and Seishirou would die instead. She loved them both too much to let them suffer, and so she told Seishirou what she had done, so he could prevent them both from dying. And then she passed on, her spirit coming back briefly several times to speak with Kakyou again...but only fleetingly.

However, the duty of a Sumeragi is to protect people from dangerous spirits and soon, the twins were separated so they could each be trained in different ways. Hokuto was taught more traditional arts as well as her onmyoujutsu, though it was clear once she met Subaru again that they would never be equals.
Pained that her brother would have to live so constrictedly, Hokuto took him into Terra and lived with him there for two years, until the Sumeragi clan decided that Subaru needed to continue his studies. Hokuto went back with him, but soon left to go live in Terra on her own. If Subaru was to protect people, then she would help by protecting the people in Terra. Still, she couldn't do as much as he, and so she took up being a freelance seamstress, making a fairly decent pay. She rented out a small shop with an apartment above it, so she could live and work easily.
Then, one night, she began to have odd dreams about a young man whom she would meet one day. He told her about dreams and about himself, but she could never remember his name or his face very clearly. Within a month or two, however, the dreams ended, and she's been left with a feeling of emptiness and curiosity, now looking for this same man when she has the time.
